The Haven, established by the Christian Churches in Paignton (and registered as a Charity in 2011) has as its aims in the Charity Registration:
The Haven – Torbay aims are to help ease the conditions of need and hardship for those located in the Torbay area. We aim to find ways to alleviate distress and obstacles that people encounter through the trials of life. Therefore, striving to provide not only immediate short-term help, but also long-term practical solutions. We want to create an environment where those we serve, as well as our volunteers, are encouraged to realise their potential, challenged to take responsibility for their own learning and development and enabled to grow in every area of their life. We seek to advance the Christian faith thus fulfilling the purposes that are connected to the charity’s objectives. The Haven – Torbay, was established by the Christian Churches in Paignton (and registered as a Charity in 2011) and it has its aims in the Charity Registration:
We value
All individuals in a way that is consistent with our distinctive Christian Ethos
We commit to
Serving and respecting all people regardless of gender, race, ethnic origin, religion, age, marital status, sexual orientation or physical and mental ability.
Providing in partnership with other agencies an inclusive service to people affected by homelessness, poverty, addiction, unemployment and associated issues without condition.
Acknowledging the freedom of people of all faiths, or none, both to hold and to express their beliefs and convictions respectfully and freely, within the limits of the UK law.
Modelling and sharing the Christian faith through what we do, what we say and how we conduct ourselves.
Developing partnerships with churches, voluntary groups, statutory agencies and local government, wherever appropriate, in order to create an effective, integrated service for our clients.
Creating an environment where those we serve, as well as our volunteers, are encouraged challenged and enabled to realise their potential assisting them to take responsibility for their own learning, development and personal growth.
Developing a culture where comments and complaints are properly listened to so that improvements can be made and excellence and innovation are encouraged.
Promoting the value of a balanced, holistic lifestyle as part of each person’s overall personal development.
We acknowledge
The physical, mental and emotional vulnerability of many of those we serve through our work.
The need for all services for vulnerable people to be transparent and open in the way they operate and to avoid any ‘hidden agenda’ or ‘strings attached’ to the practical care we offer.
We will
Implement a management and support structure for all volunteers which fosters and encourages participation at all levels in order to facilitate the fulfillment of The Haven’s goals and visions.
Implement best practice procedures in terms of Health & Safety and Safeguarding in order to protect our volunteers and clients.
Handle our funding in a transparent and accountable way.
Ensuring that all materials used to promote the work of The Haven portray those who use our services in a sensitive way and that the permission of those featured will always be sought before being used for these purposes.
